The company was launched by Japanese graphic designer, Mikuni, in 2005 and was originally known as “Brutal Works”.
It began as a private project about the design production industry.
In the beginning, production centered mostly on interior products made from iron.
Later that year, Brutal Works participated in an exhibition in Kobe, Japan called “DRAFT!”, and made it to the final selection in the interior and leather goods category.
In 2006, Brutal Works participated in the IFF (International Fashion Fair) Creator’s Village, where it exhibited mostly leather goods.
Brutal Works designs did not go unnoticed. The designs caught the attention of a certain influential industry member.
This recognition served as Brutal Works’ official debut.
From that point, Brutal Works began to expand under the wings of Sanyu Kogyo Company.
Later that year, Brutal Works participated in a private exhibition in Kyoto, and in “Under,” a design exhibition in Tokyo, Japan. In 2007,
Brutal Works went international.
Brutal works participated in “Rendez-vous”, a contemporary fashion fair held in Paris, France.
At this point, Brutal Works began its dealings on an international level.
Shortly after returning to Paris, Brutal Works held a private exhibition in Tokyo at the P2G Gallery.
On August 15th, 2008, the brand name “Brutal Works” was officially changed to “Atmosphere” to more accurately reflect the designer’s vision and style.
On 2010, the brand name “Atmosphere” was officially changed to “Like Atmosphere”

Like Atmosfear (ex.BRUTAL WORKS)

After dropping out of pharmaceutical university, Mikuni entered ESMODE School in Osaka, Japan in order to pursue something that was closer to his heart: sewing, pattern-making, and clothing.
At the same time, he also began to study academic art foundations including sketching and coloring.
On top of that, he also decided to study something he had long-since been interested in: DTP (desktop publishing), a form of web-based publishing that at the time, was revolutionizing the flow of publishing and printing.
While studying in this program, he learned skills such as graphic arts and computer graphics based on DTP methods.
Around this time, Mikuni was also drumming in a band in Osaka, where a New-York style straight-edged underground hard core music scene was making an appearance.
After completing his studies, he worked mainly in the graphic design industry.
He was involved in planning art exhibitions, directing galleries, and so on.
In 2005, Mikuni’s interests shifted from abstract to concrete; things that could be made by hand; things with stories behind them.
Enlisting the help of craftsmen, he launched a design and production company called “Brutal Works” (Later changed to “Like Atmosphere”).
In 2007, Mikuni took a step onto the international fashion design front with his participation in Paris collection week.
His, what could at the time be described as “quiet and nervous,” designs received recognition in a report by a local fashion magazine.
Like Atmosphere designs have a simple, yet complex feel to them.
While the nature of the style is characterized by sophistication, refinement, and slightly-strained minimalism, one can also strongly sense an air of rock and hip hop influences.
The impression is abstract but sharp.
This strong impression can be likened to the sound of a guitar’s distortion, after having removed all other sounds in a rock music piece.
Like Atmosphere designs closely reflect Mikuni’s sense of values and aesthetic beauty.
In his words, the designs do not just provide an ornamental surface. Rather, they serve as things more true to their intrinsic and substantial nature.
By basing his designs on these spiritual and abstract concepts, the designer is able to come up with symbolic and simple pieces.
This, combined with careful attention to small details, results in truly unique conceptions and creations.
